Alkaline foods are better than Acidic foods for a healthy body

It’s pretty simple. The body and its processes—including the immune, metabolic, enzymatic and restorative processes—do better in an alkaline environment instead of an acidic one. Unfortunately, the foods typically consumed by most Americans are overly acidic-forming foods, and that’s hurting our health. Let’s back up the train a bit, though, and talk about pH. The body’s internal environment is sustained at a pH level of nearly 7.0, which is more alkaline. It’s in a state of constant flux, however, and the body works continuously to keep it at its 7.0 alkaline pH. In so doing, the body must have oxygen, water and acid-buffering minerals—in addition to quickly getting rid of waste products—to maintain this pH level. In short, the body takes the nutrients you give it from your food, which will either alkalinize or acidify the blood. Sometimes the body has to work extra hard, too, to keep this pH ...(Read More)

3 So-Called Healthy Foods That You Should Stop Eating

The average adult eating a typical Western diet in modern countries consumes approximately 70% of their calories from wheat, corn and soy. Our bodies, however, are still programmed to the natural diets of our ancestors, who only included approximately 5% of their total calories from these foods. Considering this disparity, it’s not hard to imagine why we have such massive problems with obesity and poor nutrition. Our digestive systems were not meant to consume these foods in such large amounts and as such we have developed many intolerances and allergies to soy and wheat (also known as gluten), causing bloating. These high levels of wheat, corn and soy in our modern diet are a relatively new phenomenon that originated from the economics of their multi-billion dollar industries.  It’s all about the money and not about our health! Derivatives of wheat, corn and soy are the food additives: corn oil soybean ...(Read More)

This makes you smarter

Sure, exercise is good for your health. We all know that. But exercise is also a scientifically proven way to make yourself smarter. According to Gretchen Reynolds, author of the soon to be released The First 20 Minutes, a book about the science of exercise, recent research shows that exercise can help your brain resist physical shrinkage and improve cognitive flexibility. “Exercise,” she writes in this New York Times article, “…does more to bolster thinking than thinking does.” Here’s why. Your brain is a tissue and so like any other tissue, abuse, lack of use, and especially age causes its performance to decline. Sometime in our late twenties the hippocampus, the portion of our brains devoted to learning and memory, loses about a percent per year in total volume. So it’s no surprise that as we get older we naturally lose some of our memory and learning capacity. But what ...(Read More)

Fruit Juices Most of the world is fooled into thinking that downing fruit juices is a great way to be healthy and lose weight. But the fact is that this just isn’t true. Grape juice, orange juice, pineapple juices, apple juice‚ they all almost instantly spike your blood sugar levels and cause cravings for more sugar. Even worse, processed juices are stuffed with High Fructose Corn Syrup and Crystalline Fructose which cause even more powerful cravings than regular old sugar. Eat fruit instead. The fiber in whole fruit slows down the release of insulin and holds cravings at bay. Bread White bread is stripped of all its natural fiber and nutrition. It acts just like sugar in your body and gets quickly stored as fat. I see obese children eating white bread sandwiches and slurping on fruit juice all the time‚ and it breaks my heart. Children will eat healthy ...(Read More)

Black Tea It is true that all teas (black, green, oolong and white) come from the same plant, camellia sinensis. What gives each tea it’s particular qualities is in the processing of this particular plant to create different varieties of tea. Black tea is probably the most commonly consumed and most popular of all the teas. It also contains the highest amount of caffeine of most teas (approximately 40 mg), but not nearly as much as 1  8 oz cup of coffee (100 mg). Low amounts of caffeine in black tea promotes blood flow, in the brain without over stimulating the heart, helping to sharpen mental focus and concentration.
