Leading cause of back pain may surprise you.

The leading cause of back pain may surprise you. Bacteria may be behind your back pain, but antibiotics aren’t the best answer An interesting study out of Denmark found that a 90-day program of antibiotics reduced or eliminated back pain in many of the participants. That’s promising news for chronic back pain sufferers… but there’s a problem with antibiotics. They don’t just kill off the bad flora, they also kill off the good. And an increased use of antibiotics has been associated with an increase in cancer rates. So what should you do? How about using something that helps your body fight off the bad bacteria naturally while keeping the good: systemic proteolytic enzymes. These are enzymes your body produces in abundance… until your late 20s when production falls off drastically. Taking a proteolytic enzyme supplement not only boosts your immune system against bad bacteria, it also cleans up excess ...(Read More)

Fitness Journey

Things that I have noticed in my fitness journey: 3 Reasons why the Preacher Curl creates imbalances. Reason #1: over-shortening or lengthening muscles that support your shoulder while lifting-weight. Reason #2: Only working one muscle and one joint, so the metabolic effect is very low. Reason #3: You’re training your muscles to be strong with a very forward shoulder and shortened pec position, creating a body imbalance. The posture you lift in is the posture you stay in. Creating muscle imbalances sets the stage for injuries.

Fitness Journey

Things that I have noticed in my fitness journey: 3 Reasons why the Leg Extension Machine creates imbalances. Reason #1: sitting while exercising your quads, rather than using them to get up and down is hard on joints, and the wrong way to train your quadriceps. I prefer open chain exercises vs. closed chain exercises. Example: A series of lunges would be a better way to train your quadriceps. Reason #2: Only working one muscle group at a time instead of all sides of your leg. The less muscle involved equals less metabolic effect. Reason #3: Since you’re only working the front of your thigh, you’re creating the most common leg muscle imbalance that exists i.e. weak hamstrings.

Does young wheat grass contain gluten?

One of my clients that has been in my Health Coaching Program for 8 years voiced a concern over wheat grass juice being gluten free. So, I wanted to take a moment to share some light on the subject with all of my blog followers. Does Wheatgrass Contain Gluten? Some people become sick when they consume the elastic protein in wheat, barley and rye called gluten. Celiac disease causes a multitude of symptoms including gastrointestinal upset, rashes and brain fog, and can be linked to other diseases such as cancer, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Celiac sufferers must avoid all gluten for the rest of their lives. Wheatgrass grows from the seed of wheat, so it would seem like something celiacs should avoid. However, because it is a young version of the plant, the grass itself does not contain gluten. What Is Wheat Grass? Used primarily as a nutritional supplement, wheat ...(Read More)

Flat Belly Stop Eating This Protein

The gliadin protein in wheat is an opiate and highly addictive. Eat a slice of healthy whole grain wheat bread, and your blood sugar and insulin go sky-high. This in turn stimulates the growth of belly fat and increases inflammation. Gluten is a protein that forms in foods when two other proteins, gliadin and gluten combine. Foods containing gluten and gliadin proteins include wheat, barley and rye, and grains related to these such as spelt and kamut. In the early 1950s, Dr. Willem-Karel Dicke was born in 1905, in Dordrecht, Holland, and died Utrecht in 1962. Dr. Dicke was a Dutch pediatrician who pioneered the gluten-free diet as a cure for celiac disease. This diet remains the only true treatment for this condition, requiring patients to avoid all traces of gluten in foods consummation. Wheat The National Institutes of Health, in its brochure “Celiac Disease,” advises people following a gluten-free ...(Read More)

Amazing systemic enzymes that we begin losing after age 20…

Systemic enzymes are amazing. In fact, you might call them extraordinary, since they provide systemic health benefits. For those of us starting a new health regimen for the New Year, that’s exceptionally good news. As review, enzymes are proteins catalyzing every bodily chemical action. There are over 3,000 bodily enzymes—most of them proteolytic, or protein-eating, enzymes—and fall into three kinds of enzymes: food, digestive and metabolic/systemic enzymes. Food enzymes come from foods, particularly raw foods with their enzymes intact, while digestive enzymes help to digest food. Metabolic/systemic enzymes—while they may have some enzymes in common with digestive enzymes—work differently, going beyond the stomach, into the bloodstream and cells to work their amazingly healthy outcomes. Some systemic enzymes with particularly beneficial health effects are the pancreatic enzymes included in an important systemic enzyme called pancreatin. Others include: papain, a protein-cleaving enzyme from papaya and other plants. bromelain, a protease enzyme derived from the ...(Read More)

How to become familiar with genetically modified food.

Become familiar with common  genetic modified food. These are the products (and their derivatives) that are most likely to be genetically modified: Soybeans – Gene taken from bacteria (Agrobacterium sp. strain CP4) and inserted into soybeans to make them more resistant to herbicides. Corn – There are two main varieties of GE corn. One has a Gene from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis inserted to produce the Bt toxin, which poisons Lepidoteran (moths and butterflies) pests. There are also several events which are resistant to various herbicide. Present in high fructose corn syrup and glucose/fructose which is prevalent in a wide variety of foods in America. Grapeseed/Canola – Gene added/transferred to make crop more resistant to herbicide. Sugar beets – Gene added/transferred to make crop more resistant to Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. Cotton – engineered to produce Bt toxin. The seeds are pressed into cottonseed oil, which is a common ingredient ...(Read More)

Knowing what is in our food is a complex problem

The problem is more complex than blaming any one person. As a Health and Wellness Coach, I spend many hours every week researching the food we eat. Just this week I spent several hours getting through the gatekeepers of a company. I wanted to know for my clients what part of the Agave plant they used and what they used as a processing method. I knew that one part of the agave plant processed one way would yield a low GI of 30 and another part of the agave plant processed another way would produce a high GI of 70. One would cause high blood sugar, heart disease along with speeding up the aging process and the other would produce low blood sugar,  anti aging i.e. slowing down the aging process, and a more healthy lifestyle. Having a job, kids and family where does a parent find the time to ...(Read More)
