Should You Eat Protein Before Or After Your Workout

All the exercise in the world won’t help you build muscle or get you lean if it is not supported with proper nutrition, which should always include high-quality protein. Should you have protein before or after your work out, in reality the best time is both! The purpose of having protein before you exercise is to prevent muscle from breaking down and to promote muscle protein synthesis. A fancy word for preserving the muscle you already have, and helping to promote the growth of new muscle tissue. In addition to consuming some quality protein before you exercise, you should also consume some after as your muscles are highly receptive to incoming nutrients after a training session. The purpose of protein after training is to simply continue the benefits of pre-training protein, it preserves the muscle you already have and helps create new muscle tissue. Hope your having a great day!

Black Tea It is true that all teas (black, green, oolong and white) come from the same plant, camellia sinensis. What gives each tea it’s particular qualities is in the processing of this particular plant to create different varieties of tea. Black tea is probably the most commonly consumed and most popular of all the teas. It also contains the highest amount of caffeine of most teas (approximately 40 mg), but not nearly as much as 1  8 oz cup of coffee (100 mg). Low amounts of caffeine in black tea promotes blood flow, in the brain without over stimulating the heart, helping to sharpen mental focus and concentration. Black teas greatest benefit is its high amount of quercetin, an antioxidant found to combat inflammation and support healthy immune function. This is probably the best health benefit of drinking black tea‚ its ability to keep the immune system healthy and ...(Read More)

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen (in almost everything we do each day), they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) which can cause damage. (Exercise is a good example of a healthy activity that naturally produces free radicals.) Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and help prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals. Health problems such as heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes, and cancer are all contributed by oxidative damage. You can see how it’s important for us to get these “free radical scavengers” into our bodies each day, especially if we have made exercise a part of our daily routine. What foods contain antioxidants? The list of foods containing antioxidants is pretty extensive: vegetables, fruits, most nuts, fish & shellfish, red meat, grains, eggs, chicken and garlic are ...(Read More)

High Energy Snack Tips

1. Nut Butter and Honey on Ezekiel Bread (or any sprouted grain bread) – Although this would taste better toasted, I can make do with the colder version. I put 1-2 TBSPs of natural peanut butter or almond butter on 1 slice of Sprouted Grain or Spelt bread with tsp of raw honey. I make 2-3 of these at a time and leave them in the fridge for easy grabbing. 2. Deviled Eggs –  I hard boil 6 eggs. Once cooled, I cut them in half and place all of the cooked yolks in a separate bowl. I add Dijon mustard and olive oil to the yolks and mash them up so they become creamy. I put the creamy mixture back into the center of the egg whites and sprinkle Celtic Sea Salt and Fresh Pepper on top. I keep these in the refrigerator for an easy protein snack. 3. ...(Read More)

Researchers have done their homework on fiber, and the results spell easy weight loss for all who listen. By consuming an extra 14 grams of fiber each day you can cut your calorie intake by a full 10 percent. People who consume more fiber (as low as 20 grams per day) weigh an average of 8 pounds lighter than people who consume low fiber (closer to 10 grams per day). There are two main reasons that high fiber leads to weight loss: Fiber fills you up and stabilizes blood sugar for hours. This tames your appetite and protects you from needless snacking. Foods that are high in fiber aren’t as calorie dense. When you fill up on high fiber foods you eat just as much but take in fewer calories. Breaking it Down It’s always easier to understand a concept like this when real life examples are given. So here’s ...(Read More)
